New Guns of 2023

Walther just announced some solid upgrades to the walther pdp pro sdduty pistol they released last year, with two new models, the full-sized The walther pdp pro sd and the PDP Pro SD Compact. According to Cody, one of the Walther reps at yesterday’s Industry Day at the Range, they spent the last year watching trends in how users modified their walther pdp pro sd, and from that, they made the upgrades.

The SD stands for Shalldämpfer, the German word for silencer (just google how to pronounce it if you wanna). Sadly, it doesn’t come with a silencer, but you can add one thanks to the new threaded barrel.

So what are the new features?

Aluminum base pads on the three included 15-round magazines. *Note: The magwell requires the use of the aluminum base pads. Magazines with the standard polymer base pads will not seat in the magwell.
Recoil lugs in the optic-cut slide

Check out the original walther pdp pro sd slide next to the new PDP PRO SD slide. You can see that there are recoil lugs in it now. According to one of the reps at Range Day, statistically, there were no problems with the original. But people wanted recoil lugs, so Walther decided to add them to the new design.

Walther describes the Dynamic Performance Trigger thusly: A significant reduction in trigger weight, take up, and reset makes this the ultimate striker-fired trigger.

The MSRP for these new models is $829, as compared to the MSRP of the standard walther pdp pro sdwhich is $699. Not a bad deal, considering that you’re getting almost $500 worth of upgrades.

As Walther puts it, the PDP PRO SD models share all the features and innovations that the firearms community loved and embraced about the original Walther walther pdp pro sd models, but with a series of premium factory direct upgrades.

The new gun is on display at the Walther booth at SHOT Show 2022.
